Host: Mendip Cave Rescue.
Venue: Priddy, Mendip, Somerset.
Thanks to all who made their way to Mendip for the biennial BCRC Cave Rescue Conference over the long weekend of 6-8 September 2019, we were lucky to have some warm, sunny days for the event.
If you attended I hope that you all had a good time, had a chat with friends and even possibly came away from the weekend having learnt something (even if it’s just that its best not to compete in the Wessex Challenge if you bruise easily!). In particular thanks to all who helped with giving presentations or running the practical sessions – the weekend wouldn’t have been the same without your efforts.
If you didn’t attend, what did you miss?
The weekend was comprised of the familiar programme of practical training workshops and updates from key UK partner Search and Rescue Organisations. A number of above and below ground workshops addressed underground first aid and casualty care, cave diving support and rescue scenarios (in Wookey Hole), technical rigging for rescue, latest kit innovations and developments, SARCALL and underground communications.
In the evenings it was a great opportunity to socialise and meet cavers from around the country and overseas. On the Saturday evening 4 brave (mad?) teams signed up for the Wessex Challenge – a team based obstacle course with attitude!
You can see even more pictures on the conference facebook page.
